Goals

So it's a new year and that always comes with new goals, you know, "This year I'm really going to do this better or stop doing that or start doing such and such." I love it and I really don't care if I fall into a cliche. I think it's fun to dream about the perfect you. So this year I seriously want to stay better organized and be more prepared for things. I created my calendar and to do lists and I have my little planner to keep me organized and to jot down ideas or things to remember. It has been a big help so far this year! One area I really wanted to work on is a goal I decided on yesterday: be better prepared for church on Sundays. I teach the Sunbeams in my ward with another sister so every other week I have the lesson. Last year I would look over my lesson the Saturday night before and really prepare on Sunday before church because church was at 1:00. Now that church is at 9am I don't have the luxury to procrastinate. So I've decided to prepare on Sunday after church the week before. This worked so great yesterday! I'm almost completely ready for next Sunday! This way I have all week to pull together any extras or visual aids. I'm totally stoked about this. The class runs so much smoother when I am well prepared. I hope I can keep this up! At first I was really nervous about 9 o'clock church because I don't get to sleep in and it's so nice to relax all morning but I think the 9 is so much better. I'm still worried about being late and trying to be ready earlier but I am so much more productive on Sunday's now because we get home at noon and I have all kinds of time to work on little projects or my lesson or whatever else I want to do on Sunday afternoons, it's awesome! I especially can't wait until it's warm and we can take the puppies on walks after church and spend time outside.

Now I would like to introduce you all to a new segment that will be on the blog this year! Drum roll please.......
This is where I reflect back and post about all the great things we did last year at this time because I didn't do any blogging last year. I can't wait, it's going to be so fun to think back and post all the pictures I didn't do last year! So let's kick this baby off!

I honestly can't remember anything about January last year except one thing. Danny's squat. Danny had this goal last year to gain more flexibility and to be able to squat well and upright. He spent so much time reading and following Kelly Starrett, doing tons of stretches and just sitting in the paleo chair while watching TV. He seriously dedicated a lot of time to flexibility every single day. This wasn't just in January it was everyday of the entire year, after a few months of this his squat was totally transformed. And after a year it is a habit and he is so much more flexible and it has helped him so much to preform better while working out or while simply helping others while at work. It is incredible the change that has come because he dedicated time and energy to his goals.

It seems like most of the goals we set at the beginning of a new year are not simple, check off a list, or "bucket list" type goals; they are things that we want to work on and implement in our lives to create life long habits. I hope I can continue to keep up the new year habits I'm working on. I can't wait to see what this year brings to Danny's and my life and we are so glad we have all of you to help us along!
