This Time Last Year: MARCH

Okay so it's not March any more, sheesh it's not even April. Can you believe it's MAY ALREADY? And I've slacked a little on my posting... but without further adieu:
3 of the 8 pictures from the TTLY banner come from this epic trip
Last year Danny signed up to take a CrossFit Endurance certification. The location:
St. George, UT - March 26-27
I am so incredibly grateful that we were able to go on this trip and we had so much fun!
To see all the photos from the trip click here.

Day 1: We left right when I got off work straight from the office; Danny picked me up and we got on the freeway and headed out of town. We had the laptop and watched some March Madness games most of the way down on the computer, the BYU game was way fun to watch. Some times it was spotty and  we didn't have cell range anymore and the internet died but mostly it passed the time pretty quick. We got to Lehi, UT in record time and we were able to stay with Jeff and Jess. Didn't get many pictures of anyone but I did get this guy:
And I was able to hand deliver a blanket I had made for Jake for when he would be born.
We weren't able to stay very long but we are so grateful Jeff and Jess let us crash at their place that night!

Day 2: We took off from Lehi and drove to St. George via Sanpete County. It was a great detour off the interstate. Not only was the drive really pretty and scenic but we were so excited to go to Mount Pleasant.
We literally went over the river and through the woods, to grandmother's house we go!!!
We got to visit Grandma Staker!!
It was so wonderful to see her and she is so sweet. We had so much fun talking with her. Danny also took me on a tour of the house and gave a little bit of baby history.
Just down the road we saw where the famous Stakes was:
We peeked through the windows and tried to imagine what it looked like in it's glory days.
Then we were off on our last leg of the drive. I got a couple shots of the Manti Temple through the window as we drove by. It looks so beautiful.
The rest of the drive to St. George seemed pretty quick; I think Danny was really excited to drive over 55mph. Once we made it back to the interstate I think the speed limit was 85 the whole way down.
We made it to St. George and checked in. There was a Jimmy John's down the street from where we stayed so we went and ate dinner then hit the store to grab water bottles, milk and cereal for breakfast and food for lunch. Before going back for the night we drove down to the gym where Danny would spend the next 2 days. He had to be there early the next morning so we wanted to make sure we knew where to go.

Day 3: We woke up early and I drove Danny over to CrossFit Dixie where he would be taking the certification course.
I went back to shower and get ready for the day. Then I went exploring! I pretty much drove all over that place!!! It was so much fun and was so warm and sunny. I drove around finding all kinds of shopping places, restaurants and historical sites. I didn't have much time to do anything before I met Danny for lunch but it was fun to look around and spot places I wanted to go back to later. I brought Danny some lunch and he showed me around the gym and I took a few pictures.

They have a nice gym and I liked how the bars looked on the wall.
After his lunch break I went over to the mall to look around. It was the teeniest mall I've ever been to and I wasted so much time there. I didn't realize the shopping was better at the outlet mall otherwise I would have left earlier. When I did finally go over to the outlet mall there were so many fun shops and I wish I would have had more time to go in all of them but I had to get back to pick up Danny.
While I was driving around I saw a Red Robin so we went there for dinner that night. I freaking love that place and it's Santa Fe burger with stake fries and honey mustard dipping sauce! and I might be a little hungry right now :) mmmm yummy it's my favorite!! After dinner we went and walked around at the St. George Temple
and the visitors center.
(this picture was taken the next day)
A very nice man walking around with his family offered to take our picture for us on the steps;
there were many attempts and this is the best one we got. He was so funny!
We met the cutest senior missionary at the visitors center and he taught us about how they had to prepare the ground for the foundation before building the temple and taught us about the area at the time the saints were settling St. George. He was super smart and a really good story teller and had the best voice! haha

Day 4: Danny had to be at the gym early again and I wanted to take the day to see all the church historical sites! It was so much fun. I am pretty much obsessed with this temple and I can't wait to go back to St. George and actually go in. I took so many pictures and walked around the temple site for a long time. Here are some of my favorites:

It is such a beautiful place and a wonderful way to spend a few hours.
Just down around the corner a few blocks is the tabernacle.
This building is so pretty and the tour was really fun! It was so neat to hear the stories of when it was built and how the saints were able to do it.
The inside was amazing.
I thought the chandeliers were gorgeous. Before they converted them to electricity there was a huge counterweight for each of them in the ceiling so they could be pulled down to light the candles and then put up to light the room.

I love the detailing around the base of them. The saints were asked to settle St. George in what was called the Cotton Mission. Most of the detailing of the molding and other areas in the tabernacle are representative of the cotton and other crops they grew there as part of the mission.
The senior missionaries were encouraging me to take pictures; one man especially wanted me to get a picture of the eye painted on the wall at the front of the room.
He told an awesome story about the renovation of the building. At one point the room was painted and the eye was covered up. When the church restored the building the great-grandson of the original artiest that painted the first eye was actually the artiest that painted the eye that is there now.
This was outside the tabernacle in the front. It is Erastus Fairbanks Snow; the founder of St. George and the president of the Cotton Mission.
Just next to the tabernacle is a little park area. It's a pretty little spot to have a picnic!

I loved these rocks; I was obsessed the whole trip with the orange rock all around the area. I kept telling Danny I wanted to go see the orange rock behind where we were staying. So I took lots of pictures of random orange rock and stone.
This little area was also a wifi hot spot and had covered areas to sit at picnic tables.
I walked around all over and I'm not sure what these two places are but they were very pretty and I loved how all the buildings were built with the orange stone.

Just across the street was this cute little place.

And this bed and breakfast that was once someones home. I can't remember who's, there was a sign somewhere but I don't remember what it said.
At the tabernacle I picked up a little map of all the sites to go see. I wish I knew what I had done with it. But one place I HAD to go see what Brigham Young's summer home.
Oh my gosh; this is the prettiest place! I would have made it my year round home!! Sheesh!
I believe they said it was the last 7 years of his life; President Young had a condition that made the cold weather of Salt Lake City winters very hard for him to handle so he would spend his winters in the milder climate of St. George. I was lucky enough to get a tour of the house from the same soothing voiced man that we saw the night before at the visitors center. I was so excited. This guy is so stinking smart and knows so much stuff!

I'm not sure why I didn't take any pictures inside; I can't remember but I got several of the grounds. It was absolutely gorgeous and so much history! I was surprised to see how small the rooms are and it's so funny how you forget that they didn't have running water and indoor plumbing.
The missionary kept pointing out the beautiful bowls at the end of the bed; it just looked like decoration to me until he said that was the bathroom hahahaha! Oh my, and he showed me some of the clothes that Brigham Young's wife wore and they were so teeny tiny; they looked like children's sizes. She was a very petite woman.

I had so much fun learning about the history of the church in St. George and I did not want to leave! I wish Danny could have gone with me on the tours and seen all the neat stuff I got to see.
When Danny was done for the day I went and picked him up and I was so happy because he got done a little earlier then they anticipated. He finally got to go exploring with me and he took me to see the orange rock! There was this awesome place you could climb up and see the view of the entire valley.
You can see the temple in this one. When we were at the visitors center there was a photo like this taken of the valley like 100 years ago (or a really long time ago) when the only places you could see were the temple and tabernacle.

I was trying to take a panoramic photo and it was a bonus to get a shot of this couple. They were so funny and it looked like they were on a little date. He is laying his head on his scriptures I'm pretty sure.

The view all around was beautiful from up here!

It looked like someone once lived here it was pretty crazy.

Day 5: We woke up at 4:45 packed everything up, loaded up the car and were on the road by 5am. Danny drove the whole way down so it was my turn to drive. We drove straight through back to Boise and in record time I might add! We wanted to miss all the traffic and we did just that. We were in the middle of nowhere during the morning rush to work and had gotten through the Salt Lake area long before the noon traffic could show up and then were home before the 5 o'clock rush hour. It was a loooooooong drive home but it was nice to get home and relax after being away and seeing our puppies again.
Thank you Jacob for watching our crazy puppies they really love him.

I am so proud of Danny for working so hard and completing the certification!
I sure do love you D.
