March was a crazy month this year and I loved every minute!
Every March at church we celebrate the anniversary of Relief Society. I am on the activity board for the Relief Society in my ward and to celebrate the anniversary/birthday we put on a luau. It was so much fun and I really enjoy serving with the other sisters on the board. The task I volunteered for was to design the plates/cups/tables/questions. We didn't just want to have a luau themed dinner; it is always our goal to get the sisters to mingle with sisters they might not otherwise and get to know everyone. The idea behind our birthday luau dinner was to get the sisters moving to different tables throughout the evening and it was my task to figure out how to have the sisters sit at a different table for each course of the meal. We also provided questions as ice breakers to get to know better those at your table. So this is how it worked:
The sisters were allowed to sit and any table of their choice for the first course and our RS president spoke while everyone was eating their fruit salad. She gave a great talk about the church in the Hawaiian islands and the growth throughout the years. I was really surprised at the number of members vs non-members in Hawaii. It was something huge like close to or over 50% members.
At the end of the talk we had the sisters look on their water cups to tell them which table to move to next. We had 8 tables all with color corresponding tablecloth and balloon so it was easy to tell where to go. Then we had the main dish; Hawaiian Haystacks. They watched a 5 minute church video while I passed out the dinner plates and then we ate! The haystacks were really delicious and while we ate we got to visit with the people at our new table.
After the main dish we moved tables for dessert. There was a sticker on the bottom of our dinner plate that told us which table to sit at for dessert. While we had birthday cake for desert we watched one of the guys from our ward play a few songs on his ukulele and then visited some more.
I had so much fun planning and designing the wraps for the cups and stickers for the plates as well as the questions on the tables.
I had to pick up some balloons for the tables and I felt like the house on UP so I had one of the girls take a picture of me:
I didn't get any pictures of the cups and plates when I was done and had them all together or the awesome decorations to transform the cultural hall to a tropical oasis but just believe me, it was awesome! Here is what they looked like, just imagine they are on the plates/cups. :)
It was so awesome! I loved it and I can't wait until it's in the 1$ theater so we can go see it again.
March "this time last year" post coming soon!
